Joe was born October 18, 1978, in Kemptville. At the age of 12, Holy Cross held a fundraiser to help Joe’s family buy his first racing chair. That chair began a life-long passion for sport.Joe qualified as a member of the Canadian Track Team in time to compete at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games where he silver medaled in the 100 meter. His career as a Canadian athlete led him through numerous international and World Championships, Sydney and Athens Paralympic Games.
In 2000 Joe was awarded The Order of Ontario under Athletic Achievement. Although Joe retired as a full time athlete following the Athens Paralympics, he continues to hold World Records in the 100 and 200 meter events and now spends time working within the disabled community promoting sport for a healthy lifestyle.
